Only a few years ago, crime rates were at an all-time low in San Diego and many citizens had high hopes about the city becoming one of the safest cities. However, as of 2012 and beyond, crime has taken over the city once more on many different levels. Police Chief Bill Lansdowne spoke about the matter and said, “For the first time in several years, we’re seeing a disturbing increase in the level of crime in the city of San Diego, and we’re also beginning to experience again officers leaving the San Diego Police Department and making other choices.”
Flash forward to now, and crime rates were up in the first few months of 2016 once again. Just the rates of these crimes between January and June led to a 4% increase in San Diego’s crime rate compared to the same time period studied in 2015.
